Both Teams to Score: What the Market Means

Soccer, football and ball

18+ only.

“Both teams to score”, often shortened to BTTS, is one of the simplest football markets: will each team score at least one goal? The answer is yes or no, and the winner of the match doesn’t matter.

How it settles

  • Yes wins if both teams score at least once in normal time.
  • No wins if at least one team fails to score.
  • Own goals usually count for the team credited with the goal.
  • Extra time and penalty shoot-outs normally don’t count unless the market says so.

Always check the bookmaker’s rules, as settlement details can differ.

Common variations

  • BTTS in the first half or second half only
  • BTTS combined with the match result (for example, “home win and both teams to score”)
  • BTTS combined with a total-goals line

Combined versions offer bigger odds because both parts have to happen — the same multiplying effect explained in accumulator bets.

Why it’s popular

BTTS keeps interest alive until both teams score, even in a one-sided match, and it is easy to add to accumulators. That popularity is exactly why it is worth remembering that the bookmaker’s margin is built into both sides of the market.
